COVID-19 Vaccination Leeds

The government has confirmed that the autumn 2026 programme in England will offer vaccination to adults aged 75 years and over, residents in care homes for older adults, and people aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed as defined in the COVID-19 Green Book.

Eligibility does not mean every provider is immediately open for booking. Wait for an NHS invitation or check the current NHS page when the campaign opens, and confirm that Leeds Pharmacy is participating before travelling.

Protection can fade over time and the virus changes. For eligible people, a seasonal dose can reduce the risk of severe symptoms, hospital admission and death. Vaccination cannot guarantee that you will not catch or spread COVID-19.

Most people need one seasonal dose, although a specialist may recommend extra doses when treatment or a condition severely weakens the immune system.

The NHS may offer online booking, walk-in sites, GP appointments, care-home vaccination and participating community pharmacies. Leeds Pharmacy can offer appointments only while commissioned, with suitable stock and for eligible patients.

The vaccination team checks current health, allergies and previous reactions. The vaccine is normally injected into the upper arm. Common effects include a sore arm, tiredness, headache, aches or mild flu-like symptoms that improve within a week.

Check that the national campaign is open and that you meet the current criteria. Tell the vaccination team about severe allergies, immune-suppressing treatment, pregnancy and previous vaccine reactions.

Wait until you feel better if you have a high temperature or feel very unwell. Ask your GP or specialist if eligibility depends on treatment that weakens your immune system.
